The New York Times recently reported on a study by the NewTithing Group, which studied 2003 IRS data on income, assets, gender, marital status and age to figure out how much, percentage-wise, members of various demographic groups are donating to charities out of their investment asset wealth. It's interesting to note that those who have the most wealth are not necessarily the most philanthropic. The full report can be found, in Adobe .pdf format, at http://www.newtithing.org/content/frame_research_pressrelease.html The Group uses the research from its demographic research to suggest annual giving benchmarks by age in their newly-eleased donor education booklet, "Beyond Taxes: Secrets to Fulfilling Philanthropy," available for free at http://www.newtithing.org/content/beyondtaxes-booklet.pdf
Awards season is upon us and those who need to keep up with winners might find this Web site useful. Tapping into the archives of the Los Angeles Times and billing itself as the "Web's most extensive listing of results for entertainment awards shows," the database covers over 100 awards in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain. All of the most well-known honors are included -- the Oscars, Emmys and Tonys, as well as smaller awards such as the St. Louis Film Critics Awards and the Hastings Bad Cinema Society Stinker Awards. You can also find television ratings and top 40 hits starting in 1950. The Comparisons section, showing various award winners for each year, is not completely populated yet, but the site admits that it's a work in progress. An Advanced Search features allows searching by name, category and award show. http://theenvelope.latimes.com/extras/lostmind/ This is a clean and easy to use Find-A-Doctor site. You can search by name and state or by specialty. The profiles include the doctor's address, education, license information and affiliations and boards. The Reviews and Ratings tab is intriguing; however, I could not find any doctors who had been reviewed. I also could not find many of the individual doctors for whom I searched on the site, though it boasts 85583 listings.
