With the interest in entertainment industry continuing,
the Internet Prospector brings you some music industry resources:

AMERICAN MUSIC INFORMATION SOURCE GUIDE
is "the Internet's largest music site" with "4000+ bands and 500+ labels." It offers resources and hot links in two main categories: Leasure (bands, real audio, retail on- and off-line etc.) and the Biz. The Biz functions like a business directory with names and addresses for entertainment attorneys, bands, booking agents, labels, distributors, publicity and more. Also, if you scroll down the home page to "New Resource Links" you will find music-related listings for academic institutions, music libraries, publications, software, composers, societies and organizations and more. Point your browser to

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS, AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS
has events, news (find awards and the new board in the current press releases), interviews, a searchable database of performed music, guides on the music business and resources, as well as legislative information.

ASCAP Clearance Express or ACE, is a database of ASCAP performed music. Updated weekly, it is searchable by title, writer, performer and publisher. One of the results of a search yielded publisher address information. Similarly, the Playback Magazine has a new search function that uses an Excite keyword or concept query for current and back issues.

If you are interested in income sources for songwriters and publishers, click on Useful Information about the Intricacies of the Music Business and scroll down to "Music for Money" which, in one chapter, explains the mechanical rate for recorded compositions (it's 6.95 cents per song). ASCAP'S Guide to Resources in the Music Business points you to reference materials such as books, journals, newsletters, pamphlets, professional organizations and more. It is categorized by various areas of the industry, for example "Film and TV" or "Jingles." ASCAP is a very user-friendly site. Swing over to

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PERFORMING ARTS MANAGERS AND AGENTS
NAPAMA has a list of current members, address information on all board members and officers, a newsletter and a conference schedule. The Forum is a searchable message board. NAPAMA also offers a searchable database which can be queried by management, artist name, artist type and description (I noticed that many search results did not have information in this category). I was a little unnerved when my first couple of queries ended in a blank screen. It seems that this is what happens when there are no hits. As an opera fan, I was pleased to find a listing for June Anderson. For information on performing arts turn to
